Montreal is known as being the most bike friendly city in Canada! Though our home city of Toronto has recently added a lot more protected bike lanes and is catching up in terms of total kilometres of cycling infrastructure, Montreal has a huge head start since it started building substantial bike routes decades ago.
One of the oldest is the Lachine Canal Path. It opened in 1977. Around the same time (1978), Toronto got its first dedicated bike lane on Poplar Plains Rd. The difference? Toronto’s bike lane is a measly half-kilometre painted line on a residential street, whereas the Lachine Canal Path is fully separated multi-use path that’s a whopping 14.5 kms!
The Lachine Canal Path was a trailblazer! So obviously I made sure it was the first big route we cycled in Montreal.
I didn’t take many pictures on this ride because I was too busy playing with our new toy — the Insta360 ONE X2! So here’s the video we made, complete with maps of our route.

Nice video, interesting places, I’m not of the background music, but looks like a nice bike ride for my Brompton, keep up the good work 👍👍
